"Yuyu Hakusho" also known as "Ghost Files" or "Poltergeist Report" in the United States tells the story of 14 year old Yusuke Urameshi.  He dies saving a kid and since it was totally unexpected of him the Spirit World does not know what to do with him.

He is made Spirit Detective and given life in the human world after completing a series of tasks and showing great courage and determination.  His friend/rival Kuwabara also helps him most of the time.  He also is joined by two demons from the Demon World: Kurama and Hiei.  The four of them undertake lots of missions as Spirit Detectives.

The series was incredibly popular in Japan and is considered one of the greatest anime ever.  The characters are pretty cool and the fights are even better.  The anime is good up to Chapter Black.  After it just doesn't feel like it was the same (at least for me).
